I lead this club ride starting from Heather Farm in Walnut Creek. We head east on San Carlos Dr to Las Lomas Way and Walnut Ave. From there it’s on to Oak Grove Rd and North Gate Rd to Mt Diablo. This is an out and back route with a post ride stop at Peet’s.
North Gate Rd is a 6.6 miles climb up to the junction. It’s a bit steeper than South Gate Rd. The average gradient is 6% with a decent section of the road hitting 9-11%. It’s another 4.6 miles climb up to the summit with the average gradient increasing to 7%. There is a false summit about a mile from the top. The last 200 yards to the top parking lot is very steep. It maxes out at 18%!
Much thanks to everyone for joining me on yet another jaunt up Diablo!
