For our last day in Avila Beach, we’re off the bikes and opt to take a self-guided Path of History Walking Tour around San Luis Obispo. I planned the tour around the 3 maps pictured at the bottom of this post. You can switch it up any way you like and start the walk anywhere along the route.

We begin the morning with a huge breakfast at Loiusa’s Place on Higuera St in SLO. I’m a big sucker for a good hearty meal and my eyes are always bigger than my stomach! We ordered the biscuits & gravy combo with eggs & bacon, a bacon waffle and bacon & eggs with home potatoes and toast. Do you think there’s enough bacon? I love bacon and don’t really eat it that often except on some extended bike trips. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious! The biscuits are light, fluffy and tender with a mean gravy. The apple smoked bacon is thick with a good chew and the waffle had more bacon weaved into all the nooks. YUMMY! We certainly need to walk all of this off!

We begin our walk at Meadow Park at the corner of meadow and South Sts; there’s plenty of street parking with no time restrictions and water & restrooms are available at the park. The point of interest here is Meadow Park, it used to be a dirt track speedway from 1922-1925 for Model T’s and Duesenbergs.

This is a very nice leisurely walk around the Historic Districts of San Luis Obispo. The terrain is totally flat with plenty of cafes and coffee places to stop for a quick pick-me upper. The maps are very easy to follow and you can customize the walk to see as much or as little as you want! Our walking tour came out to be around 6 miles. There’s also free day parking at Railroad Square. Come and check it out!
