This is an EBCH hike: The route from Valle Vista is Redwood Trail, right through the EBMUD gate onto East Ridge Trail, left onto Prince Trail, left onto Stream Trail to the Trail’s End area for a short rest/snack stop. Then continue on the Stream Trail, left onto the Canyon Trail, left onto the East Ridge Trail to the EBMUD gate for a right onto the Redwood Trail to return to the Valle Vista Staging Area. *1
Begin from EBMUD Valle Vista Staging Area off Canyon Rd in Moraga. Enter through the EBMUD trail gate and turn right onto Redwood Trail.
At the trail split, turn right at the junction post to stay on Redwood Trail. It winds along through the shaded woodland before dropping down to the Indian Creek bridge crossing off Canyon Rd.
Exit EBMUD gate and cross Pinehurst Rd to stay on Redwood Trail.
The trail crosses over Indian Creek as it climbs up through the gorgeous redwoods and oak/bay woodland to the EBMUD gate at Redwood Park.
Turn right onto East Ridge Trail, the fire road travels along the ridge with open views of the dense redwood forest.
At Prince Trail junction, turn left onto Prince. It drops down from the ridge top towards the canyon floor.
At the T-junction, turn left onto Stream Trail. It takes you through the riparian woodland and redwoods to the Redwood Creek bridge crossing.
Turn left after the creek crossing to stay on Stream Trail and enjoy the stroll under the gorgeous towering redwoods to the Fern Trail junction.
Go straight to stay on Stream Trail past Trail’s End campground and the beautiful picnic area at Old Church.
The trail exits the redwoods onto pavement as you past Fern Dell campground and the children’s play area towards the Canyon Meadow Staging Area.
At the signpost, turn left onto Canyon Trail, the trail tilts up for a moderate climb back up to East Ridge Trail.
Turn left onto East Ridge for the return to the EBMUD gate.
Retrace the route back on Redwood Trail to Pinehurst/Canyon Rds.
Stay on Redwood Trail for the return to Valle Vista.
This a gorgeous hike around one of the most secluded and beautiful areas through the EBMUD watershed into Redwood Park. Get the permit, enjoy the less traveled trails and the leisurely stroll under the redwoods!
