We took a drive out to the Pacific North Coast along Hwy 1 to check out the Elephant seal colony at Piedras Blancas. The vista point has fabulous views of the Elephant seals during their breeding season.

You can hear the males bellow, the pups squawking and the females squabbling for their position on the beach. The elephant seals can be seen flipping sand on themselves to cool off and maybe protect themselves from the sun. It’s a fascinating scene to see the thousands of elephants seals laying on the beach and to hear their vocalizations.

The drive back on Hwy 46 to Paso Robles has gorgeous vistas of the surrounding rolling mountains and hills of the Santa Lucia Range-it’s absolutely spectacular!
