Day 6: This out & back route goes along the Salinas River on N River Rd for a flat-rolling ride through the gorgeous vineyards and horse ranches from Wellsona Rd and Airport Rd to Tower Rd. Head further north on Jardine Rd to Hog Canyon before retracing steps back to Paso Robles.
Meetup at Paso Robles Inn parking lot.
Exit town on Vine St to 13th St.
Cross over the Salinas River onto the River Walk Trail; it takes you off the busy road as it loops underneath the expressway towards N River Rd.
Head north on N River Rd; the rolling terrain travels along the Salinas River to the Hwy 46 underpass.
The narrow two-lane road leads you out of town through the oak dotted meadows.
N River Rd continues along the river past horse ranches, vineyards, a pumpkin patch and bamboo farm.
The rolling terrain comes to a junction at Wellsona Rd.
Go straight onto Wellsona; the road turns eastward for a short climb up towards the hillside vineyards.
The road travels through the beautiful pastoral fields and paddocks around the horse farms.
Wellsona Rd cuts across the expansive vineyards and orchards before coming to a T at Airport Rd.
Turn south on Airport Rd as it continues past the J. Lohr Vineyards & Winery.
The left turn on Tower Rd continues for two flat miles through the gorgeous oak dotted vineyards to the T junction at Jardine Rd.
Turn left onto Jardine Rd, it head north through the open valley vineyards with splendid views of the rolling hills in the background.
The road name changes to Estrella Rd as it crosses over the Estrella River to Hog Canyon Rd.
Head east on Hog Canyon towards the ranching community. On the rolling hills, I break a front wheel spoke and decide to cut the ride short. At this point, I turn around and retrace the route back into Paso Robles
Even with the bike mishap, I was still able to enjoy a scenic morning ride through the beautiful horse ranches and vineyards around Paso Robles. I located a bike shop and was able to have the wheel fixed at K-Man Best Bike Zone. I spent the early afternoon walking around the downtown area and even took a nap at the park before returning to the bike shop in the mid afternoon. Bike, window shop and nap-it was pretty good day!
