We’re finishing off our day in Monterey with another walk on the Rec Trail along Monterey Bay to Cannery Row. Along the trail, I was able to catch a few pics of a still hummingbird perched on a branch-priceless!

We stop at the Sandbar Grill for a late lunch/early supper at the Municipal Wharf 2; Fried Calamari, Clam Chowder, Jumbo Crab BLT Sandwich & Grilled Salmon Tacos.

We head south on the Rec Trail along the Monterey Harbor; the bay views are simply gorgeous!

The Rec Trail to Sister City park and San Carlos Beach Park:

The old cannery buildings at the historic waterfront district have all been updated. Cannery Row is now a top tourist destination with upscale hotels, restaurants, galleries, specialty shops and retail stores.

The main attraction on Cannery Row is the Monterey Bay Aquarium; you can spend an entire day exploring the new exhibits and watching the large schools of fish swimming around in circles.

We  continue on the Rec Trail to the Marine Life Refuge area at the Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University.

Harbor seals can be seen laying on the sandy shores off Point Cabrillo. Further south along the trail, you can see the rocky coastline out to Lovers Point at Pacific Grove.

We turn around on the Rec Trail and follow the path behind Cannery Row. You can visit the sold single room housing for cannery workers and see the giant murals depicting scenes from John Steinbeck‘s novel-Cannery Row.

The sun is slowly setting as we make our way back to the RV; the subtle change of light creates a different scenic effect along the bay waters.

The rolling fog settling along the beach casts light hues of greys and silver tinged with purple; it’s a dramatic contrast to the dark silhouette of the cypress trees.

Intricate wood carvings out of driftwood can be seen at Industrial Burlwood off the Rec Trail.

Leisurely walking around Monterey is a wonderful way to explore the city! Come and experience it for yourself.
