California state parks officials announced a plan for additional safety measures for roads on Mount Diablo. Following California Department of Transportation standards, the project was designed to increase the safety for cyclists and motorists on Mount Diablo. *1
The new improvements include:
- Solid Double Yellow lines and Designated Passing areas
- Bike Sharrows
- DO NOT PASS BIKES ON BLIND CURVES signs
- AVOID CRASH SLOW DOWN signs
- Additional STOP signs for safety
- Revised warning Curve/Speed Advisory signs
- Improved Safety Communication to Mount Diablo State Parks’ Visitors

Steep climb up Mt Diablo “wall” to the summit upper parking lot.

Watch out for tarantulas crossing the road and let’s give a big round of applause for the new safety signs and solid double yellow lines leading up from both sides of the mountain to the summit!
