*After more than 20 years of negotiations and planning, and one year of intensive repairs, a popular roadway-turned-trail was reborn and reopened to the public on Saturday, November 8 by the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD). The 1.7-mile renovated trail segment was renamed to honor Congressman George Miller for his almost four decades of work and for his crucial support to secure funding for the restoration of the old county road. This beautiful and safe trail provides a link back to the usefulness of this road, and creates a recreation resource for people to bike and walk.

This scenic walk along the George Miller Trail takes you 2 miles gate to gate from Martinez to its north end at Port Costa. It winds along the Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline through wooded landscape with gentle grades. The trail sits above the shoreline which provides spectacular views of Carquinez Strait, the maritime traffic, Benicia’s waterfront and Mt Diablo! 

I started at the south end of George Miller Trail from Martinez and parked alongside the road.

Parking: South end from Martinez-at the end of Carquinez Scenic Dr, park alongside the road but do not block any fire road  gates. North end from Port Costa-at the George Miller Trail parking lot at the end of Carquinez Scenic Dr. No fees.

*The George Miller Regional Trail is open to the public from 5:00am to 10:00 pm seven days a week. Bikes and pedestrian can access the trail during these hours, but cars are limited to seasonal gate schedules at staging/parking areas at both ends of the trail.

This is a scenic stroll along the Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline with gorgeous views of Carquinez Strait! It’s a traffic-free trail, no motorized vehicles are allowed except for service and emergency vehicles. Check it out-the walk is easy enough for the entire family to enjoy!
