This out & back route heads up North Gate Rd to the Junction Ranger Station and a bit beyond to the Livermore Valley Overlook.

Mt Diablo State Park North Gate Entrance Station to the Junction Ranger Station is 6.5 miles with an average grade of 6%.

Lower North Gate Rd to  Arroyo Del Cerro Ranch:

Arroyo Del Cerro Ranch to the Burma Trailhead at 1000′:

The steepest section on North Gate Rd is about a quarter-mile stretch with 9-11% grades on the approach to the 1000′ elevation sign near Burma Road Trail to Camel Rock and a bit beyond.

North Gate Burma Trail to Diablo Ranch:

North Gate winds up and around the switchbacks to the trail at Angel Kerley Rd Trail:

The last 0.7 mile to the Junction Ranger Station:

Summit Rd to the Livermore Valley Overlook:

You can choose to work your up to the summit or if you’re feeling a bit lazy like me; go up about half a mile on Summit Rd and stop to enjoy the panoramic views at the Livermore Valley Overlook. Going up Mt Diablo is one of my favorite local rides-who says you have to go to the summit each and every time?

Weather: Plenty of sunshine and blue skies. Temps ranged from the low 50’s to the mid 60’s with breezy NW winds.

Mt Diablo

This route begins at Heather Farm Park and goes up from North Gate Rd to the Junction, Livermore Valley Overlook and to the summit. You can easily turn around at any point.
