I love going up Mt Tam; it’s one of the most beautiful rides in the Bay Area! This counter clock-wise loop begins in Mill Valley with a climb up Camino Alto followed by the flats through the city streets to Fairfax.

The 2.1 mile climb up to Meadow Club golf course from Bolinas Rd has 6-7% grades; the road becomes Bolinas Fairfax Rd for the 7% grade up to Pine Mountain and down to Alpine Lake.

The 2 mile ascent on Bolinas Fairfax Rd to Ridgecrest Blvd has an average grade of 6% with steeper pitches that max out at 10%.

The 3.8 miles on Ridgecrest Blvd take us along the roller coaster 9-13% climbs on the ridgeline all the way to Rock Springs Parking Area. This section of road has sweeping views of the ocean, mountains, forests and golden hillsides.

E Ridgecrest Blvd up to the summit is 3 miles long with an average grade of 6% and one steep section with grades of 9-15%! The views from the summit are spectacular!

The route concludes with a descent on Pan Toll Rd to Panoramic Hwy and through the city streets of Mill Valley back to Safeway.

This short route has a little bit of everything from the flats through the cities to the gorgeous climbs on a quiet road around the redwoods and ridgeline up to Mt Tam. Come on out and ride it-you won’t be disappointed!

Garmin Stats:
37.36 Miles with 4219′ of elevation gain
Max elevation: 2456′
Avg grade: 5%
Max grade: 13%

Weather: FANTASTIC! Sunny and hot with mild NW winds. Temps ranged from the low 70’s to the mid 90’s
