This short loop heads west out-of-town on Nacimiento Lake Dr to Adelaida Rd; a beautiful 11.5 miles stretch of quiet country road with no traffic. The rolling terrain takes you pass horse ranches, a RV Mobile Home park, nut orchards, an organic olive farm and many wineries and vineyards.

There are gorgeous views of the Santa Lucia Range and valley from the gentle climb up to the top of the ridgeline. The road descends and drops you down to the vineyards and orchards growing on the colorful rolling hillsides.

Adelaida Rd continues through a shaded wooded area with gorgeous ranch homes and wineries before reaching the small historic town of Adelaida. Take the time to stop and read the plaque citing the history of the town. The Adelaida Cemetery is located near the end of the road at Chimney Rock with plenty of deer grazing along the hillsides.

The turn on Chimney Rock Rd winds you through more wine country and open ranchlands of Adelaida. You can  also see the Historic Adelaida School located between the growing vineyards.

Chimney Rocks continues on for 5.8 miles and heads east through the Santa Lucia Range. The gentle terrain through the valley has fabulous views of the surrounding mountains and open pastoral lands. There’s even a small lake that feeds into the San Marcos Creek.

At the end of Chimney Rock Rd, we continue east on Nacimiento Lake Dr/County Hwy G14 for the next rolling 7.5 miles into Paso Robles.

We got back to the hotel before noon and even had to time to go out and play tourists! This ride was short and sweet and packed with all the beauty Mother Nature intended for us to see!

Tonight’s dinner was at Lombardi’s Pasta Familia on 11th St. I had a bowl of minestrone soup with a simple green salad and shared a small margharita pizza. The pizza was way too greasy and really upset my stomach!
